III.Literature as a Platform in Education for Sustainable Development

Literature plays a vital role in nowadays, because aside from possessing quality and artistic merits, it also serves as a platform that aims for sustainable development. Literature fulfills or feed-up education in the sense that it has a significant role in education.

Literature is a record of past history; it teaches us the values, ethics, culture, beliefs, custom of the Filipino. The values of Filipino’s nowadays are quietly changed if we have to give an important emphasis to our moral values.

Literature offers the best way of teaching extensive reading skills. Learning Literature is important because students can better understand different cultures or time periods. It also inspires people especially when reading compositions people can relate it to their lives and give lessons.

IV. COMPOSITION IN LITERATURE

A.) HAIKU POEMS
B.) CONTRAST POEM
C.) TURN - AROUND POEM

Through Literature I became creative because I can now create my own poems and other composition. I can now also interpret message of a poem and story. Just like the poem below that our instructor have discussed:

Ink
Guillermo Castillo
Pangasinan

I
Ink
Bottled in a glass prism
Meaningless in itself
Black and mute without a language
Silent but strongly-urged
To speak
2
Ink
Chance-impressed on white
Inarticulate unintelligible chaotic
Welcome on the bareness of white
But still foreign
Excommunicate
3
But ink
Pen-lifted pen-impressed
On blank white paper
Will-ordered
Interprets intensifies clarifies
Expresses
Life
Interpretation:
The poem "ink" describes a person who is imprison and doesn't have a freedom to defend himself because of judgment of others. When he given a chance to express himself there he was afraid because others still cannot understand him.
Pen is used to express thoughts, feelings and ideas through writing.

V. Integration of Education for Sustainable Development to Literature

We can able to express thoughts, feelings and emotions thru poems, novels, and short story. Learning literature is interesting and it helps a lot because we can relate it to our way of living. Literature introduces us to new worlds of experience. We learn about books and literature; we enjoy the comedies and the tragedies of poems, stories, and plays; and we may even grow and evolve through our literary journey with books.

We may discover meaning in literature by looking at what the author says and how he/she says it. The imaginations also work when it comes to reading, just like in a story we imagining that we are one of the character or we are in a situation in the story.

Studying literature can be an enriching, eye-opening experience. It is not very hard to understand depending on how the instructor going to introduce us this subject. But we find it interesting because of our instructor.
